Tennessee Tech visits No. 4 TCU

NCAA Football Betting Lines

09/10/2010 - Cookeville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Open the season at a ranked FBS team and it's supposed to get easier for an FCS program.

That's not necessarily the case for Tennessee Tech, which will try for a monumental upset Saturday at TCU, ranked fourth in the Associated Press writers poll and fifth in the USA Today coaches poll.

Tech is the only FCS team to open the season against back-to-back ranked FBS teams. The Golden Eagles lost 44-3 last Saturday at Arkansas, then ranked 14th, before 69,596.

It's also the second straight week the Golden Eagles face a quarterback who is a Heisman Trophy hopeful. After facing Arkansas' Ryan Mallett last week (intercepting him twice), they take on TCU's Andy Dalton on Saturday.

Sophomore Tre Lamb is Tennessee Tech's starting quarterback, although senior Cass Barnes also sees time behind center for coach Watson Brown's Golden Eagles.

They hope to draw off the upset of another Ohio Valley Conference program, Jacksonville State, which won at Ole Miss last Saturday.

"It's great for everybody, how could it not be? It just doesn't happen very often," Brown said.

This if the first meeting between Tennessee Tech and TCU. Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson and assistant Dick Bumpas were both part of Gary Darnell's coaching staff at Tech in 1983 and '84.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
