Chicago's Keith beats Kiprusoff, Flames in OT

Hockey Betting Lines

12/19/2008 - Calgary, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Duncan Keith scored the game-winner 23 seconds into overtime, as the Chicago Blackhawks topped the Calgary Flames, 3-2, to extend their winning streak to six games.

In the extra session, Chicago's Jonathan Toews obtained the puck and skated into the Calgary zone on the right side of the ice. He made a stop-and-start move to get past a defender in the right circle, then flew across the crease, drawing Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff in his direction.

Toews sent the puck back toward the slot past a sprawled Kiprusoff, and Keith was there to backhand the disc into the open net to end the game.

Dave Bolland and Patrick Kane each scored once for the Blackhawks, who had won the previous five games during their current string of victories in regulation. Chicago is averaging 4.66 goals per game during the streak, thanks in part to a 9-2 pasting of Edmonton on Tuesday.

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 32 shots in the win for Chicago.

Rene Bourque had a goal and assisted on David Moss' tally for Calgary, which had won two in a row. Kiprusoff turned aside 28 shots in the loss.

Bourque had the only goal of the first period, but Bolland lit the lamp just 1:08 into the middle frame to knot the game at 1-1.

Kane's 15th goal of the season, a power-play score, edged Chicago in front a little over five minutes after Bolland's tally, though Moss provided the equalizer at the 8:32 mark of the second.

The goaltenders were strong in the third period, with each making several key saves. Kane almost notched the game-winner on a clear breakaway with 4 1/2 minutes to play, but Kiprusoff stoned the offering as the game went to overtime.

Game Notes

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.

Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.

According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).

Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.

''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''

Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.

Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.

''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''

Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.

Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.

”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''

The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.
